Healthy Recipes- Lotus Stems and Potatoes Kofte

Ingredients :
For Koftas           
Lotus leaves cleaned, grated and soaked in water250 grams
Potatoes peeled, grated and soaked in water2 medium
Saltto taste
Ginger, chopped1 tablespoon
Red chilli powder1/4 teaspoon
Gram flour3 tablespoons
Cornflour/ corn starch1 tablespoon
Oilto deep fry


Healthy Recipes- Lotus Stems and Potatoes Kofte

For Gravy            
Oil1 tablespoon
Onions, roughly chopped2 medium
Ginger-garlic paste1 1/2 tablespoons
Turmeric powder1/2 teaspoon
Coriander powder2 tablespoons
Red chilli powder1 teaspoon
Tomatoes, pureed2 medium
Gram flour (besan)1 tablespoon
Fresh coriander leaves chopped2 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Garam masala powder1/2 teaspoon


Directions :
  1. Grate the lotus stem.
  2. Squeeze the grated lotus stem pieces to remove water and put in to a bowl.
  3. Similarly follow the process with potatoes.
  4. Squeeze potatoes and put in to the same bowl.
  5. Add salt, ginger, red chili powder, gram flour and cornstarch and mix well.
  6. Shape them into small balls.
  7. Heat sufficient oil in a skillet, slide in the balls or kofte and deep fry on medium heat till turned golden.

To Make Gravy
  1.  Heat oil in a nonstick pan.
  2.  Add onions and sauté till light brown.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and mix.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and mix and sauté for a minute.
  5. Add tomato puree and mix and continue to sauté.
  6. Add ¼ cup water and mix.
  7. Sauté till oil begins to separate.
  8. Add a cup water and mix.
  9. Mix gram flour in ¼ cup water till lump free.
  10. Add this to the gravy and cook till the gram flour cooked.
  11. Drain balls or kofte and add to gravy and simmer.
  12. Add coriander leaves, salt, garam masala powder and mix.
  13. Reduce heat and cook for 7-8 minutes.
  14. Serve this Healthy recipes hot.
